Welcome to Active Recoveries. These terms explain how we work with you when you book our vehicle recovery, roadside assistance, towing, jump-start, tyre-change, fuel-delivery or winch-out services. We’ve kept them as clear and straightforward as we can.
By booking a service, accepting a quote, or letting one of our recovery operators attend your vehicle, you’re agreeing to these terms.

Booking With Us
When you get in touch, we’ll ask for a few details so we can send the right help:
- Your name and phone number
- Where the vehicle is
- The make, model, colour and registration
- What’s gone wrong
- Whether the vehicle can be driven
- Anything that might make access tricky, such as car parks, underground areas or private land
- Where you’d like it taken, if you need a tow
Please give us accurate information. If something turns out to be different from what we were told, we might not be able to do the job as planned, or the price might change.
Quotes and Pricing
Our prices depend on a few things:
- The type of service you need
- The size and type of vehicle
- Where you are and how far we need to travel
- The time of day (nights, weekends and bank holidays can cost more)
- Traffic, weather and road conditions
- Whether we need specialist equipment or extra help
- Where the vehicle is going
Any quote we give is based on what we know at the time. If the job turns out to be different, for example the vehicle is bigger than we were told, access is restricted, or we need extra equipment, we may need to update the price. If that happens, we’ll explain why and agree it with you before we carry on.
Paying Us
Payment is due when the job is finished, unless we’ve agreed something different with you beforehand. We’ll confirm which payment methods we accept when you book or when the job is complete.
You’re responsible for paying the full amount for the service, including any extra charges you agreed to. If a payment isn’t made on time, we may take reasonable steps to recover what’s owed, which can include pursuing the debt through the proper channels.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time before our operator has been sent out, and there’s no charge.
If you cancel after we’ve dispatched a recovery vehicle, or after it has reached you, we may charge a call-out or cancellation fee to cover our time and costs.
If we can’t finish a job because of something outside our control, we’ll talk through your options with you. We may still need to charge for time, fuel, mileage or work already done.
If you’re a consumer who booked by phone or online, you may have additional cancellation rights under UK law. Because breakdown services are usually urgent, by asking us to attend straight away you agree that we can start immediately, and you’d need to pay for any work already carried out.
What We Ask of You
To help us help you, please:
- Move to a safe, accessible spot if you can do so safely
- Give us accurate location details
- Tell us about any known mechanical, electrical or safety problems
- Take valuables and personal items out of the vehicle where practical
- Make sure you’re allowed to request recovery for the vehicle (as the owner or with the owner’s permission)
- Follow any reasonable safety instructions from our operator
Please don’t ask our team to do anything unsafe, unlawful or outside the service you booked. We also expect everyone to treat our drivers with respect.
Staying Safe at the Roadside
Your safety and our team’s safety come first.
If you break down on a motorway or a fast road, follow official roadside safety guidance. Get to a safe place if you can, switch on your hazard lights, leave the vehicle by the left-hand side, and stand well away from traffic.
If our operator decides that attending or recovering the vehicle would be too risky, they may decline or postpone the work. In that case, we may suggest you contact the police or another emergency service.
Your Vehicle and Your Belongings
We take proper care when handling your vehicle during recovery, towing and transport.
That said, we can’t be held responsible for:
- Damage that was already there before we arrived
- Damage caused by mechanical or electrical faults
- Items left inside or on the vehicle
- Loss or damage to personal belongings, unless it was caused by our negligence
- Damage caused by an accident, collision, vandalism or a third party before we recovered the vehicle
Please take any valuables out, or secure them, before we move your vehicle, if it’s safe to do so.
Our Responsibility to You
We provide our services with reasonable skill and care. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit. Your legal rights as a consumer aren’t affected.
Apart from that, our liability for any claim connected with a service is limited to the amount you paid for that service, unless the law says a higher amount applies.
We’re also not responsible for indirect or knock-on losses, such as lost income, missed appointments, travel or accommodation costs, or lost business, unless the law requires it.
Working With Partners
Sometimes we use approved partner recovery drivers or operators to complete a job. We expect them to meet the same service standards we do. We’re not responsible for the actions, vehicles, equipment or conduct of partners, except where we haven’t taken reasonable care in arranging the service.
Fuel Delivery
We can bring fuel to you, but it depends on availability and safety. In some places it isn’t allowed or isn’t safe, and we won’t be able to deliver there.
Please make sure you tell us the correct fuel type. If the wrong fuel is requested or supplied because of incorrect information, we can’t be held responsible for any resulting damage.
Tyre Changes
We can change your tyre if it’s safe and we have what we need: a usable spare wheel, your locking-wheel nut key, the right equipment and safe working conditions.
We might not be able to do it if:
- There’s no usable spare
- The locking-wheel nut key is missing
- The vehicle is in an unsafe position
- The tyre or wheel is badly damaged
- Conditions at the roadside aren’t safe
If we can’t change the tyre, we’ll talk to you about taking the vehicle to a garage, tyre centre or another place of your choice.
Winch-Out Recovery
Before a winch-out, our operator will assess the site. They may need to look at the vehicle, the ground, the access route and the surroundings first.
We may decline a winch-out if it could damage the vehicle, put people at risk, damage property, or can’t be done safely with the equipment we have.
Delays and Things Outside Our Control
We always aim to reach you promptly, but we can’t guarantee exact arrival or recovery times. We’re not responsible for delays caused by things like:
- Heavy traffic or road closures
- Accidents or police incidents
- Severe weather
- Problems getting access to the vehicle
- Very high demand for recovery services
- Breakdown of our own equipment
- Anything else outside our reasonable control
If we’re running late, we’ll keep you updated wherever we can.
If Something Goes Wrong
If you’re unhappy with any part of our service, please tell us as soon as you can and we’ll do our best to put it right.

We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page is the current one, and it applies to any service you request after the “last updated” date. It’s worth checking back every now and then.
